The professionals at Bulldog Concrete are your trusted concrete sidewalk contractors based in Cranbrook, BC and servicing the entire East Kootenay Region.

Whether you’re looking for a basic, grey, broom finish sidewalk up to your front steps or a more extravagant, decorative walkway winding to your outdoor patio our team of concrete finishers has you covered.

The Benefits Of A Concrete Sidewalk

Lifespan

When you install in a new sidewalk or walkway on your property you want it to last for years to come. That’s why a concrete sidewalk or walkway is the #1 choice for most homeowners and business owners. With a properly installed concrete sidewalk by a quality concrete contractor you can expect it to last a lifetime.

Curb Appeal

If you want to give your home a little more curb appeal, a sense of flair, a decorative concrete sidewalk leading up to your front door can achieve just that. With the ability to color, stamp and/or expose a concrete sidewalk you can really accent the beauty of your home and give it more curb appeal.

Versatile

One of the best benefits of using concrete for your sidewalks and walkways is how versatile it can be. We have the ability to make it as wide or long as you desire. We can design it to wind in and out of your gardens, to your patios or around your pool. Concrete can be colored, stamped or exposed to give it the look of cobble stone, slate or rock. The versatility of concrete sidewalks makes the design capabilities endless.

Winter Friendly

Our East Kootenay winters have a tendency of making our walking surfaces very dangerous. We can go from a sheet of ice on our sidewalks to a foot of snow over night or vice versa. And if you’ve ever had to deal with either of these elements on anything other than a properly placed and finished concrete sidewalk or driveway you know it can be a real pain. Concrete makes shoveling and dealing with ice in the winters 10X easier.

Frequently Asked Questions About
Concrete Sidewalks & Walkways

How Much Is My Concrete Sidewalk Going To Cost?

Due to the fact that there are so many different variables when it come to pricing a concrete sidewalk this is a difficult question to answer on a website. Prices can range from $1 per sq. ft. up to $20 per sq. ft.

For argument sake though, an average broom finish sidewalk, just pour and finish (no prep work) you can expect to pay between $1.20 to $2.00 per sq. ft. depending on location, size and complexity of the job.

For a more decorative finish like stamped or exposed, just place and finish, you can expect to pay $4-$5 per sq. ft.

How Long Will My Sidewalk Installation Take?

This is obviously going to depend on the size and or the complexity of your project. Here is a typical timeline though.

  • Removal of old concrete, stone or bricks: 1-3 days
  • Excavating and subgrade prep: 1-3 days
  • Setting up forms and rebar: 1-2 days
  • Placing and Finishing: 1-2 days
  • Site cleanup: 1-2 days
  • Letting sidewalk properly cure: 28 days
How Thick Will My Concrete Walkway Be?

Typically you’ll only require a concrete sidewalk to be 4 inches thick. However, if for any reason it is going to be bearing any kind of significant weight you may need a 6 inch sidewalk.

Do You Tie The Rebar?

Yes, if you choose, we can certainly include installation of rebar, wire mesh or fiberglass v-rod in your concrete sidewalk.

Do I Need To Seal My Concrete Sidewalk?

Sealing a concrete sidewalk certainly cannot hurt anything. However, for a basic broom finish sidewalk it isn’t essential.

If you’re sidewalk or walkway is more of a decorative concrete finish like stamped or exposed then I’d seal it every 2 to 3 years at least.

Can I Use Salt On My Concrete Sidewalk?

Salt is best avoided, especially for the first winter after your concrete sidewalk is installed. Salt can cause a chemical reaction with the concrete and cause issues with the surface. Sand is the best alternative to provide traction.

Do You Do The Subgrade Prep For My Sidewalk?

Currently Bulldog Concrete does not usually offer subgrade prep as a service. However we do plan to offer this service in the future. In the meantime, we have a handful of contractors we can recommend.

The main reason that we do not offer subgrade prep is due to the fact that we would need to rent equipment in order to do so. Renting equipment can be costly which will result in your costs being higher than if another contractor does subgrade prep.

Do You Set Up The Forms?

Yes, if you desire, we can come in and prepare the forms for your concrete sidewalk project.
